Toronto Star opinion on Innovation

Innovation: noun
1. Something new or different introduced: numerous innovations in the high-school curriculum
2. The act of innovating; introduction of new things or methods.

Last Saturday in the prime edition of the Toronto Star (remember they're liberal the National Post is Conservative), they put out some innovative ideas different things like Blockchains of trust using money, Making cars that are MORE energy efficient and having a highway of them. Also, They want driverless cars. But cars are a mode of transportation and must therefore mean that at least one person will be in the car but that person won't be driving. Can cars be that good? I think they will be one day. So, with that comment I'll show you a new car.

This is my car. It's a 2014 Cruze. Love it. It's fuel efficient, got a nice colour, Standard transmission and a cool license  plate. And according to the Star, Innovation will make this a better car. And that government (read higher taxes and corporate welfare) should take the lead in Innovation.
It should be pointed out, this is what I believe,

Businesses and Education is what creates jobs and it's what makes a people and Country innovative and creative. Not Government.
The only role for Government is to provide funding where it's needed, not doing things like the Star suggests like Taking the lead in this matter.

"The idea being let's make it better for less money, because we're smart people."

A car is a good place to start. But the Star in it's commentary and opinion is pointing out two things. First, it says Government should take the Lead. It says the Minister in charge of Innovation Navdeep Singh Bains should come up with more ideas, a national innovation strategy. I think the best he can do is make sure he picks the best and the brightest stars and make sure they go through colleges and universities to earn a degree in economics, business, become a medical practitioners. Get them into big places like TTC and car companies like GM and Ford. It should be easy for the best and brightest to find jobs. Even good ones. How 'bout Government jobs.
The other thing the Star says is we're falling behind other Countries in R&D such as Germany and the United States. It also says championing things like a transition to a "clean green economy." It could be said that if they want a "clean green economy" it must mean we're not clean enough. But let's make the point here. The Star Editorial Board obviously wants ideas that fit into the liberal agenda and wants it to take the lead on this matter. Why do we need a highway of super-clean cars, trucks, buses, big ones, small ones and so on? Did we accomplish something? is it better then what we have now? Is it worth it? I think it would be worth it if Canada built it's own Space ship and put a man on the moon. That's new and innovative. It can make Canadians proud.
The Board also gives praise to the Obama Administration giving financing Elon Musk venture in electric cars. Again, we don't need this.

These are liberal ideas.

Ideas of a Green Economy, Green cars, The environment is what matters. Cleaning up our rivers, changing our toilets to use less water and all new liberal ideas. And Government should take the lead. Let's point past Governments because they inadvertently mentioned it. They say in the past it wasn't good, but that now with a new liberal Government they promise to put Innovation at the centre of it's Agenda, and Navdeep Bains is the Minister responsible for Innovation. But again let's be serious.

Government doesn't create these things, it funds it.

And so it is not fair to blame past Governments for failing to provide technology or education to students who want to pursue things. So don't blame Stephen Harper and the previous Conservative Government for this.

Take care. Have a nice day.
